Gunfire in Birminghamâs popular Lakeview District leaves 1 dead, 1 wounded
Gunfire in Birmingham’s popular Lakeview District left one person dead and another injured.
The shooting happened about 3 a.m. Saturday.
One person was pronounced dead on the scene near a food truck. Another person was taken to UAB Hospital.
No additional information was immediately available.
In May, two people were wounded tin a shooting Lakeview. That shooting happened about 12:45 a.m. Sunday, May 21, in the 2700 block of Seventh Avenue South.
An off-duty Birmingham police officer was working inside Tin Roof when someone ran into the bar and told him there had been a shooting outside.
First responders arrived to find a male shot and a female grazed by a bullet outside Tin Roof. The two were together that night, and both were transported to UAB Hospital.
A suspect was arrested.
In July 2017, two on-duty city workers got into a dispute, and then a shootout, with another man, who was later determined to be an off-duty city worker. One person was killed and two others injured.
That shooting happened in 2800 block of Seventh Avenue South. A suspect was arrested.
Today’s victim is Birmingham’s 129th homicide this year. Of those, one was an officer-involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and nine others have been ruled justified.
